They’re Making Real, High-tech Doors for Your Pets
We’ve just endured one of the worst winters in 20 years. In fact, the great lakes came pretty close to freezing over because of how consistently cold it was. Homeowners have to be thinking differently now about home energy efficiency.
No matter how awful it is outside, our pets need to get outside too. Yet we can’t always be at their beck and call when they want in or out, so a pet door can be very handy.
Typically, a pet door is one way to allow hot air into the house in summer, and lose warm air in the winter. That means higher energy bills which is perhaps is why many homeowners don’t utilize pet door ways.
The common screen door for pets could only be used in warm weather within the outer screen door or in the main door itself. These pet screens can’t be used in winter or cooler weather.
But inventors keep coming up with unique ideas to create pet doors that operate easily for the pets themselves and provide an insulated seal to keep your energy losses low.
Probably the best idea to come out lately is the PetWALK pet door (by PetWALK Solutions) which appears to only be available in Europe at present. Only a matter of time before it can be purchased here.
It’s a great way to give your animals the freedom of movement they want to go out in your backyard without you having to open the door and then wait for them.
The system uses rf technology within a chip worn by your pet, this signals the PetWALK door to open when your pet is near. It is closed to other pets, wild animals and people. If your pet is being chased by a coyote or other predator, it is able to escape into the doorway. Without that, they would be on their own to hide from predators. And, the product’s insulation capabilities are excellent.
The PetWALK door is a well-designed entry system for pets. From the company’s website:
The heart of your personal petWALK door, the core door system consisting of the inner and outer body, the door leaf, insulation, a spacer for thin structures like window glasses and the electronic door control system including remote control, motion detection, RFID access control, daylight sensor and many, many other things.
The PetWALK door system consists of an inner and an outer frame, the door panel, and the door control system including a remote control. The model large has an opening of (W x H) 30 cm x 50 cm is specially designed for all breeds of cats and dogs.
PetWALK offers a number of accessories or extensions including this wall extension.
If you’re wishing to have one of these types of pet entryways built into a door, you’ll need to have your new door custom built. Installing a pet door such as the PetWALK door system in your wall would be a larger more expensive task.
