But your first question might be; “Is it worth it?” I think in most cases, with homes older than 15 years, it is worth it to install new replacement windows.
Plenty of builders install cheap windows and doors to get houses sold and maximize their profit. Unfortunately, they’ll need to be upgraded or replaced.
How will your new ones look? Good. And definitely modern. Will you feel better? Yes. How will they perform energy-wise? Very well.
The new solar heat/light management features in modern windows mean many sun related issues less troublesome now. In fact, builders and designers are able to design homes to face into the sun without fears of excessive heat or light on the south or west side of the home. No one has to hide from the Sun anymore.
How about Getting Creative?
Can I do anything new and creative without breaking the bank? Yes, in fact, if you’re going to get new windows, it’s wise to consult with us about your possibilities. You could just reglaze your old windows, or retrofit them, add new window spaces, or expand the size of the windows.
Some homeowners are expanding their basement windows (usually to conform to local building code bylaws) to turn their basements into livable spaces, or perhaps an income suite.
A big project might be building a new sunroom or solarium. You could decide to install a few solar tubes to get natural light into the house and basement. You might also increase the size of your windows, and replace your old patio doors. There are new types of windows and you can create new shapes. It can be a lot of fun for you to explore how to might use new windows in your house or condo.
This is your chance to make your home extremely energy-efficient and maybe more importantly, is create a whole new feel in your home that will give you a serious emotional lift. We all need that.
